London Community Boxing – An Inspired Facility

Peckham-based London Community Boxing (LCB) has been awarded a major capital grant by Sport England, under the Inspired Facilities funding stream. The grant will pay for upgrades to the community gym and onsite England Boxing registered club, including the installation of male, female and disabled showers and changing areas.

London Community Boxing is a charity founded in 2012 on the conviction that boxing, whether recreational or competitive, has a key role to play in connecting people and revitalising communities. Its premises in South East London opened last year to serve as a headquarters for the enterprise, a welcoming and affordable gym for everyone, a means of sustaining and expanding LCB’s outreach work with vulnerable people, and a home for its competitive boxers.

LCB’s Chairman, Leigh Bruce, said, “We are delighted to receive significant support from Sport England at such a young stage in our development. The upgrades will really make a difference to quality of the services we provide – increasing participation in, and enjoyment of, boxing and related activities in South London, where good facilities sadly are in short supply.”
